Set up study zones

A study zone is a circle on the map where sessions can start and stay active. Most chapters need two or three.

Updated

Creating a zone

  1. Open the Zones tab. Sign in as an owner or admin and tap Zones in the bottom bar, then tap the add button.
  2. Drop a pin. Search for the building or long-press on the map. Put the pin in the middle of the space where people will actually sit, not at the front door.
  3. Set the radius. The default is 50 meters. Anything from 1 to 500 meters is allowed. Cover the whole building for a library; use a smaller radius for a single room in a house.
  4. Name it and save. Use the name members will recognize, like "Main Library" or "House Study Room". The zone is active immediately.
  5. Test it. Walk into the zone with the app open. The Home tab shows when you are inside a zone and lets you start a session. If it does not, widen the radius a little.

Choosing a radius

GPS inside buildings is less precise than outdoors. A radius that hugs the walls of a building will produce false exits when a member is sitting near a window. Add 20 to 30 meters of margin beyond the footprint. The app also rejects position readings with poor accuracy rather than acting on them, and a member who briefly appears outside the zone gets a five-minute grace period before the session ends.

Free plan limit

The free plan includes 2 zones. Pro and Pro Plus include unlimited zones and custom zones, and let you assign specific zones to specific members or tags. If you try to add a third zone on the free plan, the app will offer an upgrade. Every new organization starts on a 14-day Pro trial, so you can set up more zones during the trial and decide later.

Editing or removing a zone

Tap a zone in the Zones tab to rename it, move the pin, or change the radius. Deactivating a zone stops new sessions from starting there but keeps historical hours intact. Any active session in a zone that gets removed ends cleanly and the hours already logged are kept.
